What is Shuffleboard?
You may already know shuffleboard as the game frequently played on cruise ship decks using large pucks that are pushed down the decks and onto various scoring zones. In recent years however, Shuffleboard was reinvented to a much smaller, and more accessible tabletop version of the game.
In the tabletop version of the game, players slide weighted metal pucks down a long waxed piece of wood called a “plank”. The pucks slide down easily, almost gliding as they head to the end. The aim of the game is to land the pucks in the scoring zones.
The game appears very simple on the surface, and it is in concept, but the execution of the game can take a long time to master properly. A delicate touch, a good understanding of distance and the ability to take a chance are all important key aspects of a game of shuffleboard – Do you aim for score? Do you play tactically and defend your pucks on the board? Do you play aggressively and aim to leave your opponent with no points on the board? The choice is completely up to the player.
