What is the difference between steel tip and soft tip darts?
The "tip" describes the point of a dart. Soft tip darts have flexible plastic tips to hold within a plastic board with moulded holes in it. Steel tip darts have a very sharp point made from steel to stick into the fibre of a bristle board.
Soft tip darts are used in plastic or electronic boards. Soft tip boards are often used as a safer darting option compared to steel tip darts due to less chance of causing injury to a person or damage to a wall. Soft-tips are also used for electronic boards which are hugely popular as they score each round automatically. Often electronic boards are more expensive so are normally only found in bars or pubs. Home Leisure Direct now stocks top-of-the-range electronic interactive dart boards and augmented reality darts.
Interactive Darts
Smarts Interactive Darts uses revolutionary Smartboard technology to detect where your darts have landed and instantly displays the result on a digital scoreboard. This makes it super quick and easy to see your score and continue an action-packed game, without the mental maths. It’s not just doing the scoring, it also enables a wide range of easy fun-packed games to be played, meaning even the darts novice has a great time.
Augmented Reality Darts gets everyone lined up to have a throw, creating a truly memorable competitive experience. AR Darts offers several different game options using a projector screen and arcade-style graphics to supercharge the classic game. It takes the Smarts darts system to a whole new level, showing where you need to throw, rewarding the right shot with explosions and confetti.
How do you play soft tip darts?
For soft-tipped or electronic play, the toe line is marked by taking a plumb line from the face of the dartboard straight down to the floor, and then measuring 8′ or 2.43m. For steel-tip darts, the distance is 7′ 9 1/4” (or 2.37m). This distance must be observed by each player throwing a dart during his turn. The rules of darts games remain the same with either steel or soft tip darts.
