Here we have Randall's Tavern. The Games Room of the Year entry from Simon Randall isn't just a room, it's his entire house and garden. Simon has an enormous collection of games room products from old classics to new ventures. There is every type of game you could think of plus a home bar, jukeboxes, and more.
So, what made Randall enter this year's competition? He told us he thinks "it is a fantastic competition with great entries, it's a great buzz, I love seeing everyone's efforts from around the country. I feel I have a great mix of Pub memorabilia, pub games, amusement machines, arcade machines, best-stocked bar in Devon (probably!) great beer garden to include a traditional bus stop from route 21 – this is used as a BBQ area and fire pit area which is great in the colder months, children’s rocker rides. So much to see and do! Oh! And the beer voucher... (I am rather partial to real ale and craft beers!)" ... well, we are pleased Simon entered, as this house isn't quite like anything we have seen before.
With so many games to choose from, we wanted to know what is Simon's favourite part of his collection. He is most proud of his traditional Bar area complete with a pool table and jukeboxes. This is where he spends his most time and we can't blame him! He has collected an astonishing amount of classic pub knick-knacks which any proper local would be jealous of.
Simon's game collection has taken over 30 years so far to create and is still not finished, not sure it ever will be finished! Simon is a true collector and has turned a hobby into a lifestyle. This shows the beauty and individuality of creating a games room, the sky is the limit and collection will forever be changing and evolving.
Simon has a lot of plans for the expansion of his games project, both indoors and outdoors: "The Present Mrs Randall would like a Victorian Pier leading off the bar area veranda down the garden to a traditional amusement arcade at the end of the pier! I think I may be slightly more realistic as I would like to get a double-decker bus for the rear beer garden to house my Scalextric collection upstairs and a shuffleboard downstairs. Groundworks have started in the front beer terrace to have a traditional “Aunt Sally” game along with a petanque court – this will now have to wait for next summer. These additions will be great for the summer charity events we hold." Simon says he is interested in looking at anything exciting that may come along to add to his pride and joy. He would particularly like a Northamptonshire Skittles table.
Sending Simon good luck in the final stages of the competition with Randall's Tavern.
