Have you ever seen an indoor swimming pool converted into an epic games room? Neither had we until Steve entered the Games Room of the Year competition 2021. He has turned a mass of concrete into something truly personal and special for his family and friends to enjoy. Steve is very proud of his hard work and the end result, so the GROTY 2021 competition is the perfect opportunity to share his project with other game-loving home-improvers out there.
Central to the space is the gigantic 85" tv screen set up with a mammoth sound system and full-size mics for karaoke. One side of the room is dedicated to music, with a drum set and electric guitar all ready for a jam session. The other end of the converted pool is Steve's new addition pool table and home bar, stack with pub snacks and a fully stocked drinks display. The purple pool table cloth matches the purple theming of the room, with purple lighting and soft furnishings. At the end of the room, Steve has created a memory wall for his recently passed father with various photos and dedications to his life.
Now Steve can down the tools and enjoy his games room we asked him what his favourite part is. "The pool table is getting a lot of use as the final addition but there’s something there for all. 85” 8k OLED TV looks tiny in the big room, bar, karaoke for the boss, music corner, cupboards full of toys and a memory wall for my recently passed father. We’ve got space on the floor for occasional Scalextric competitions too."
In total, the project took Steve a full 12 months of hard graft to complete. He said this was a great lockdown project from him to convert what used to be an indoor pool (or hole in the ground depending on how you look at it) into something special and personal for him to enjoy with his family and friends. What a great use of space and huge transformation from the concrete shell it started off as.
In Steve's continuing games room journey, he wants to add some lazy boys to kick back and relax in on movie nights, and an arcade games console to play all his favourite classic and retro games.
We wish Steve and his family good luck in this year's competition with his swimming pool to pool table transformation.
