Craig Pullen, UK Pinball Champion, explains the importance of gaining control of the ball and how to achieve this.

Craig: So, as you would have seen on the video before you know, I miss a lot. So what we need to do now is we need to have a look at the skills that a pinball player needs to have really in their armory if they're going to be able to get the ball back under control, OK. So this whole kind of section is going to be about ball control and different things that you can do to get the ball back under control. Alright.
So first and foremost we're going to talk about trapping the ball. So having the ball under control and being able to trap it, that is your ideal situation. That for a pinball player is where you want the ball, alright. If you've got the ball in that position then we can make any decision. You can relax, you can take your time, you can decide on what the next shot is going to be. So that or, obviously that, is where you want the ball the majority of the time because from here I can make different shots. So what we're, all of these skills that we're going to be talking about next are about getting the ball back into this position.
Something I quickly want to say as well is when you're first watching pinball players and they haven't played much pinball before, they quite often do this. Alright. Double flip. Alright. So instead of doing it one at a time they go and trying to hit both. Hit the ball together and what you're doing then is the ball's always out of control and what you need to do is, you basically need to just resist the urge of ever double flipping, OK. Cause in double flipping what you're doing, you're taking away half of your ability to change the shape of the ball.
So you know, if you're just starting out playing pinball don't ever double flip. Always just do one at at time and that's a really basic skill that if you can get into that frame of mind being able to do that then it's going to change your game straightaway.
